Archbishop of Canterbury

Asked if the Prime Minister thought that the Archbishop was a silly old fool’, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that the Prime Minister had already responded to the Archbishop’s comments, as had several Cabinet Minister’s. Asked if the Prime Minister had read the piece in the media, the PMS replied that he did not know.

On whether there was a particular comment from the Archbishop that the Prime Minister found most puzzling, the PMS said that we welcomed the debate on these important issues. We thought the public understood the need for reforms to education, the welfare system and the health service.

Asked if the Prime Minister met the Archbishop regularly, the PMS said that he could not recall a recent meeting. On whether they had met since David Cameron became Prime Minister, the PMS said he would need to check the diary.

Asked if it was healthy for the Prime Minister and Archbishop to be so out of step’, the PMS replied that different people had different views; the Prime Minister had said that he disagreed with the Archbishop.
