7/7 Inquest

Asked for a reaction to the outcomes of the Inquest, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that today was a very significant day, but advised journalists to wait and hear what Lady Justice Hallet had to say in full. The Government’s position was that it had supported and cooperated with the Inquest throughout and would carefully consider the Coroner’s recommendations.

The PMS added that the Government was always looking to learn lessons and to improve the response to the terrorist threat we faced. That included learning from the 7th July attacks and from other incidents too. The PMS said that there had been a considerable number of improvements put in place since 2005.

Asked if the Prime Minister had a message for the families of the victims, the PMS replied that the Home Secretary would be commenting later today, and said that she hoped the conclusion of the Inquest brought some measure of comfort to the families and all those affected.
