International Development

Put that the Opposition had said that it could use some of the ring-fenced international development money for a military reconstruction force, the PMS said that the idea of a reconstruction force was not new. We had about a 1000 UK professionals who stood ready to help unstable countries get back on their feet. They came from the private and public sectors.

Asked if this would compromise the work done on development, the PMS said the important thing was that for the first time we would be enshrining in law the 0.7% of gross national income spent on official development and assistance.
