Iraq Inquiry

Put that the Prime Minister seemed surprised over Nick Clegg mentioning the protocols set for the Iraq Inquiry and would the PMS give any further explanation as to why the Government had a say on what came out in public, the PMS replied that the protocols addressed what categories of evidence and information were regarded as sensitive and therefore could only be heard in private and not released into the public domain.

The inquiry had agreed with the Government the procedures for releasing information into the public domain and those procedures were in place to avoid the release of any information that was covered by national or security interests. These had all been clearly set out and included endangering the life of an individual and making public commercially sensitive information.
