School Age

In answer to a question about the Prime Minister s view on children starting formal education too young, the PMS said that Vernon Coaker has expressed the Government s view that leaving formal education to six years old would leave many children, particularly those in disadvantaged areas, a long way behind others. He told the assembled press that unless there is the option of starting pre-school classes at four, raising the start age to six could be damaging.

  1. I think children would get too used to playing by that age and many would strongly resist being made to sit behind a desk and learn. It must be drilled in early that life involves work and play in a balance.
