Sir Terry Leahy

Asked whether the Prime Minister was worried about Sir Terry Leahy s criticism of the education system, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had enormous regard for Sir Terry Leahy and what he had achieved as a businessman. The key point was that the standards in secondary schools had never been higher; compared with 1997, there were around 107,000 more 11 year olds now achieving Target Level 4 for their age in English and 101,000 more in mathematics.

Jim Knight had said this morning that we had launched the Backing Young Britain Campaign, which would deliver another five million learning opportunities for 16-18 year olds.

What is Tesco doing to further the education of children? It is fine to criticise the govt, but Tesco must do more. I wonder if Leahy has complained to the board that Tesco does not do enough for community projects.

Take the large global cos like Coca Cola and McD’s. They have given millions all over the world.

Maybe Tesco gives millions as well and are very shy about publicising it. Let us know.
