MPs Expenses
« Sir Terry Leahy | Back to most recent briefing | Afghanistan »
Asked what the Prime Minister made of Nick Clegg s suggestion that expenses involving mortgage claims should be looked at again, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had made his views on the Legg Review very clear. He believed that we were seeing the back of a discredited old system and looked forward to dealing with the issues it brought as soon as possible. The new system would be driven by the Kelly Report and the establishment of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
The Prime Minister encouraged all MPs that had received letters from Sir Thomas Legg to respond as quickly as possible. Put that some of the Cabinet had disclosed their Legg letters and some had not and was it down to individuals, the PMS said that it was down to individuals as to how they responded. The Prime Minister s view was that he had responded as soon as was appropriate and would wish other MPs to do the same.
Asked if the Prime Minister had had any meetings with other party leaders about the Legg Review, the PMS said not in the last few days
