Asked to characterise relations with Russia, the PMS said that we had an extensive and important relationship with Russia and, as the PMS in Japan had said yesterday, we would raise issues of concern with them where necessary.
Asked about the allegations regarding Alexander Litvinenko on yesterday’s Newsnight programme, the PMS said that our position on Mr Litvinenko was that the police had carried out a thorough examination; the Crown Prosecution Service had issued a warrant and that warrant was still outstanding. He would not comment on intelligence matters.
Asked if there had been any reaction from the Russians due to the fact that this appeared to have been briefed during G8, the PMS said that the journalist would have to ask the Russians for their reaction.
