Equal marriage

Asked whether the PM’s authority had been undermined, and if the PM was disappointed that so many MPs had opposed equal marriage, the PMS said it had been a free vote. Questioned whether the PM regretted not making his statement earlier in the day, the PMS said the PM’s views were well known, and they had been expressed many times before. Asked whether there would be discipline against those MPs who ignored the Whips on the programme motion, the PMS said it was a matter for the Whips.
