Afghanistan

Asked if he could confirm that paratroopers in Colchester would do another tour to Afghanistan, the PMS said that he would look into the matter.

Put that there had been suggestions that the Afghanistan Conference should look at the appointment of a civilian head of operations and one name that had been mentioned was the UK Ambassador Mark Sedwill, the PMS replied that he was aware of the discussion over a civilian chief but it was not for him to make any further comment on that at this stage.

One of the important aspects of the ongoing campaign in Afghanistan was to ensure that we had the right combination of military support and civilian support, so the fact that this was being discussed made it worthy of consideration.
