Haiti

The reports and pictures of the extensive damage to infrastructure destruction and casualties are of great concern. The PM continues to be regularly updated on the situation. Our embassy in the Dominican Republic are monitoring the situation and urgently seeking further information. We continue to have no reports of any British casualties. DFID field assessment team arrived in Dominican Republic this morning at 0545 hrs (UK time).

The team will now be moving forward to Port au Prince. No specific timing as yet. The UK fire service search and rescue team arrived at Santa Domingo at 0715 hrs this morning (UK time). Again they will now be moving to Port au Prince as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister has sent a message of sympathy and support to the UN Secretary General yesterday.
