Airport security

Asked if there was any response to the claim that the scanners being introduced would fall foul of child pornography laws, the PMS said that this was an issue that the Government would want to take seriously. It was our understanding that these body scanners were used elsewhere in the world. The introduction of anything like this was a balance between helping people travel and protecting people.

Asked if we would introduce anything like the Americans did yesterday in terms of extra checks for people from certain countries, the PMS referred to what Lord Adonis had announced about ensuring that security was as tight as possible in terms of passengers who were in transit. One of the potential lessons of this issue was that security around transit was as important as people leaving host airports.
