Asked about the meeting between the Prime Minister and the outgoing NATO Secretary General, the Prime Minister s Spokesman (PMS) said that the Prime Minister met with the NATO Secretary General on a regular basis.
Asked if the Prime Minister would raise the issue of burden sharing at the meeting, the PMS said that such an issue would be expected to come up whenever we spoke to NATO or NATO allies on matters related to Afghanistan.
Put that the urgency for more NATO allies to get involved in Afghanistan had increased, the PMS said that other NATO allies were doing more; an announcement was made a few months ago that several thousand extra troops would cover the election period. We continued to stay in close contact with our NATO allies on this subject.
Asked about the Government s objectives regarding the election in Afghanistan, the PMS said that we hoped the elections would be as free and fair as possible.
Asked if Britain were neutral in terms of who won the election, the PMS said that Britain were neutral.
