Asked if the Prime Minister had made any contact with any of the relatives of soldiers killed in Afghanistan, the PMS said that we did not tend to make an issue of such things but it was the Prime Minister s practise to write personally to the families of every soldier who dies whilst on operation. Put that there was wide discrepancy between the amount of equipment reported by troops on the ground in Afghanistan and the amount of equipment reported by the Government, the PMS referred journalists to what the Spokesman for the British Military in Helmand said yesterday; in the view of military commanders on the ground there were efficient resources. The PMS went on to say that he was unclear as to what other briefings/reports the journalist was referring to. Put that there had been reports in Basra and Afghanistan of a lack of Chinooks, the PMS referred the journalist to what the Spokesman for the British Military in Helmand said yesterday; there was tip-top equipment – it was really good, whether it was the personal protective equipment (body armour, helmets, weaponry), or whether it was the vehicles, which soldiers could choose from in terms of which vehicle would be best for each task. Put that a dead soldier had written about the lack of equipment in his diaries, the PMS referred the journalist to what the Spokesman for the British Military in Helmand said yesterday.
