Sellafield

Asked about the purpose of the visit, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) told the assembled press that it was a longstanding invitation to visit Sellafield. The Prime Minister would welcome the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s nominations of Sellafield, Wylfer, Aldbury and Bradwell as potential sites for new power stations.
Put that there had been some controversy over plants such as Stathorpe using foreign workers and depriving British workers of jobs and would there be any safeguards to ensure that British workers would get first choice, the PMS said that the position on the employment market and access for British workers was set out in some detail last week by the Home Secretary. We had introduced a new points-based system for foreign workers and that system was coming into operation now. It would apply across the economy.
