Jacqui Smith

Asked if the Prime Minister was happy with Jacqui Smith’s arrangements regarding expenses, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) replied that people would have seen the statement from Jacqui Smith’s office that made clear that the Home Secretary has always abided fully with Parliament’s rules on expenses, and that she had long-standing written approval from the Parliamentary fees office for any agreed expenses.
Asked if the Prime Minister was happy with this, the PMS replied that Jacqui Smith had made her statement, and that was it as far as the Prime Minister was concerned.
Asked about Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper’s home in Yorkshire, the PMS replied that questions about parliamentary expenses should be addressed to their offices, as this was a question about their activity as MPs.
