Asked if the Prime Minister was disappointed with the UK's performance in the Eurovision Song Contest, the PMOS replied that he had taken a bet before Lobby that somebody would raise the subject, but did not think it would be Gallery News. All he could say was that he, like many other people had to sit through Eurovision because of the kids, and that was suffering enough without adding to it on a Monday morning. Asked what the Prime Minister would discuss in his meetings with President Jacques Chirac and President Elect Nicolas Sarkozy, the Prime Minister's Spokesman (PMS) said that with President Chirac this was a private meeting as they had worked closely together over the last decade, and whilst he was in Paris it was appropriate that the Prime Minister called in to see the President. The Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) began the briefing by giving journalists a readout from this morning's Cabinet. The Prime Minister started off by acknowledging that this was not quite a normal day. The Prime Minister then confirmed that he would be going to his constituency, and he confirmed that he would be making an announcement about his intentions. The Prime Minister said however that he did not think this was the day for comments, although some indicated they might want to make comments, he said that could be left for another day since this was not the last that Cabinet would be seeing of him as Prime Minister. The Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) began the briefing by clarifying events tomorrow. There would be a Cabinet tomorrow morning at 09:00, although this may not be as long as usual. The Prime Minister would then be going "elsewhere" to make an announcement, and that would be all that would happen. There would be nothing said in Downing Street and as far as we were aware there would be no other statements or interviews anywhere else. Asked if the Government was happy with Lord Falconer's comments that prisoners who breached their conditions of licence should only face a maximum of 28 days, the PMOS replied that he had not seen the comments and would need to see them in context before he replied.
