African Presidents
Asked why the Prime Minister was meeting the Presidents of Mozambique and Rwanda today, and was it a coincidence, the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) said that it was simply that both happened to be in London. Rwanda and Mozambique, despite their pasts, had become two of Africa's more successful stories, and the Prime Minister would be marking that in his discussions with them, as well obviously, as talking about issues such as Darfur.

Iraq
Asked what the Iraq Study Group (ISG) report was likely to say about the Prime Minister's evidence to it, the PMOS stressed the ISG would draw its own conclusions on the back of that evidence. He reminded people that the content of the Prime Minister's evidence had already been widely reported on. He explained that Prime Minister had told the ISG Iraq must been seen in the context of a wider, holistic strategy for the Middle-East, one that responded to issues in Iraq but also placed particular emphasis on Palestine and Israel.

Fiji
When asked if the British Government was doing to do anything about Fiji, the PMOS responded by saying that as with all coups, we condemned it. We were stopping our military help to Fiji, and we were expressing our views to those who had taken control in Fiji.

Police inquiry
Asked the police question, the PMOS said No. Asked for clarity on what the PMOS would or wouldn't comment on around this issue, the PMOS referred people to response given at the Lobby this morning.

Hugo Chavez
Asked if the Prime Minister had sent a message of congratulations to Hugo Chavez on his winning a third election, the PMOS replied that he was sure that there would be some kind of communication at some point.

Police Inquiry
Asked by the BBC if there was anything to say about the Prime Minister being interviewed by the police, the PMOS said no.

Middle East
Asked if the Prime Minister was still planning to go to the Middle East before Christmas, the PMOS replied that the Prime Minister had said what he had said in September about visiting the region, and the Middle East was still a major priority for him, but there had been no final decisions taken as yet.

Trident
Asked when the official tender would be issued to build the next generation of submarines, the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) explained that an initial discussion period would be followed by a vote early next year. Put to him that foreign shipyards might win these contracts, he said that while the Prime Minister had given a strong indication the Government hoped the new submarines would be built in this country, clearly the contracts would have to be put out to tender.

Prime Minister’s Trip to Washington
Asked for further information about the Prime Minister's forthcoming trip to the US, and why was he going, the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman (PMOS) said that the Prime Minister would see the President and some Congressional leaders.

Litvinenko Case
Put that there had been reports over the weekend that there had been arguments in Cabinet about the diplomatic decisions that had been made versus the practicalities pursuing the police investigation, and what the Prime Minister's view on it all, the PMOS replied that the Prime Minister had clearly stated his view last week. That view was that no diplomatic or political consideration should stop the investigation going on where it needed to go. The PMOS said that he did not recognise the first part of the journalist's question as an accurate reflection in any way of the Cabinet meeting he had attended last week.
