Asked if there had been any decision on the law lords ruling this morning yet, the PMOS said we recognised there would need to be a decision taken by Parliament about how to respond to the ruling. However, the detail should be left to the written ministerial statement. Asked what the decision would say, the PMOS repeated that it would be outlined in the written ministerial statement, and it would therefore be better to leave it to that. What was clear was that Parliament’s primary role in legislation was still there. Asked if Cabinet was aware of the decision, and was it discussed, the PMOS said Cabinet was informed at the end of Cabinet, but it was news coming in, and nothing further at that stage.
