US Presidential Election

Asked if the Prime Minister would be staying up tonight to watch the results of the Presidential election in the United States, the PMOS told journalists that he would brief on that tomorrow morning. Asked if the Prime Minister might consider following the example of his Swedish counterpart by giving a 7am press conference, the PMOS suggested that it might depend on the results were actually announced.

Asked by the BBC who the Prime Minister wanted to win the election, the PMOS responded with a severe frown.

Asked what his attitude was towards the election, the PMOS said that the Prime Minister believed that it was a matter for the American people. Asked what might happen once there was a clear-cut result, when ever that may be, the PMOS said that the Prime Minister would make his view known, but he would rather not getting drawn into speculation about what might happen. Asked if the Prime Minister would be in Downing Street tonight, the PMOS said yes. Asked if he would be watching the results on the BBC, the PMOS, declined to comment.

Asked if the Prime Minister had any plans to speak to President Bush today, the PMOS told journalists that the Prime Minister recognised that there was an election in the US today and that all citizens in the US might be otherwise occupied. Asked if this was a snub, the PMOS sighed and asked it to be recorded that he frowned again.
