Asked for more details on the situation in Iran, the PMS replied that there were still four locally engaged staff from the British Embassy who were being detained by the Iranian authorities. We were deeply concerned at their arrest and their continued detention. These arrests were completely unacceptable and unjustifiable as the Foreign Secretary had been saying in the last 24 hours and as reiterated by the statement from the EU Foreign Ministers yesterday.
