Asked if the Prime Minister would ever use the phrase British jobs for British workers again, the PMS said that the point the Prime Minister had been making and as other Ministers had been saying over the weekend was that, we wanted to ensure that British workers had the skills necessary so that they could fill the jobs we would create in the future.
Put that Lord Mandelson was pre-empting the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) negotiations by saying that contractors brought into the Lindsey refinery were not undercutting British workers, the PMS said that Lord Mandelson was saying that the company involved in this case had issued a statement with an assurance that there was a level playing field for British workers. Lord Mandelson was in no way pre-judging the ACAS process, which would report shortly.
