UK-China Summit

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with Premier Wen s view that the current financial crisis showed how dangerous an unregulated financial market was, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had set out his view on the necessity for looking at global regulation of financial transactions and had talked extensively on that point, most recently during today s press conference when he said that we needed an early warning system and that the Prime Minister supported China s membership of the Financial Stability Forum.

Asked if Premier Wen s comments were regarded as friendly and supportive, the PMS said that, as the Prime Minister had said, we agreed with the Chinese on the need to look at the global financial system in light of what had happened in recent months.
