Asked what response the Prime Minister would give to MPs who had labelled any pay rise as madness , the PMS said that he would refer people to the Prime Minister’s letter to Bill Cockburn who had conducted the review.
Asked why it was appropriate for the House of Lords to have a flat-rate when it was regarded as a public outrage for MPs, the PMS replied that the Senior Salaries Review Body had looked at the issues in detail and in their report they had sought to apply the principles of the Kelly Review to the House of Lords while taking into account the differences in the two houses. The Prime Minister had accepted the report in full and looked forward to it being implemented.
Put that in the report it had called for members to clock in and clock out and how quickly would the Prime Minister like this implemented, the PMS said that she would refer people to the Cabinet Office for the detail.
