Asked if there was any response to President Obama announcing that he would be attending the summit and the emissions target of 17% he had set, which had been criticised in some quarters for being far too unambitious , the PMS replied that the Prime Minister welcomed the fact that President Obama had decided to go to Copenhagen and that his presence would add further momentum to the talks. The Prime Minister had also welcomed the announcement on emission cuts, as it constituted a radical shift in US policy.
Asked if the Prime Minister would agree with John Prescott who had said that President Obama should be locked in a room with the leaders of China and India until a deal was done, the PMS said that the Prime Minister welcomed the President’s decision to attend Copenhagen and the announcement he had made about emissions.
