Libya

Asked whether the Prime Minister had a view on Lord Mandelson hobnobbing with members of the Gaddafi family, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister thought that whatever the First Secretary did in his own social time was a matter for him. Put that it didn’t look good, the PMS said that Lord Mandelson’s spokesman had issued a statement on the issue and she would refer people to that.

Asked if the Prime Minister was relaxed about it, the PMS reiterated that the Prime Minister was content that the First Secretary did as he saw fit in his own personal time.

Asked whether the Prime Minister had replied to the letter by Senator Schumer calling for Al Megrahi to be put back in jail, the PMS said she was not able to confirm whether the Prime Minister had responded, but added that any issues relating to Al Megrahi were for the Scottish government.
