Jobs

Asked about the Prime Minister’s comment that 500,000 jobs would be saved by Government measures and how that did not tally with the Treasury’s figure of 250,000-400,000, the PMS said that the methodology used, which was called the Roma and Bernstein Method was consistent with the methods that the OECD and International Labour Organisation used to create estimates for G20. This was an internationally accepted methodology and it was also accepted to round up a figure, meaning that it had been rounded up to 500,000.
In the time elapsed since the Budget, several hundred thousand more jobs had been saved as a result of Government policy. Beyond that, the Government was also doing a lot to protect people who were currently in jobs.
