Banking

The PMS added that it had been a good day for customers. If the opening up of the banking system to new competition happened in the way we hoped, then there would be improved service, lower prices and a better deal all round for customers. Given the divestments from RBS and Lloyds and the availability of Northern Rock, there were effectively three banking opportunities for new entrants to come into the market.

There were several hundred branches in total that would be available through the divestments and this represented a tailor made and unique opportunity for new competitors to come in.
