Parliamentary Standards Authority

Asked if it was the Government s wish to get the Parliamentary Standards Authority in place before the summer recess, the PMS said that we wanted to operate on a cross-party basis, but it was the Prime Minister s view that we would like to try and complete this legislation by the summer recess.

Asked how much of a set back it would be if the legislation was not completed by summer recess, the PMS said that we wanted to do this in a consensual way but it was the Prime Minister s view that the public mood was that we needed action as soon as possible to clean up Parliament, and that was what we were doing through the legislation on the Parliamentary Standards Authority.
