Postal System

Put that Peter Mandelson had said that he was not an unqualified admirer of liberalisation of postal markets, and asked for the Prime Minister s views on this, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister would in the first instance rely on the advice of his Secretary of State for Business, so it was best to check with the department to get further background on exactly what he had in mind.

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with that approach, the PMS replied that the Prime Minister would be advised by the Secretary of State for Business and his Business Ministers on this.

Asked if the Prime Minister had any plans himself to meet with MPs who were sceptical about Royal Mail s strategic partnership, the PMS replied that this was an issue as people would expect, that the relevant department was very much in the lead. But of course the Prime Minister met a range of backbenchers all of the time to discuss a whole range of different issues.
