Social mobility

Asked if there was going to be a White Paper on social mobility, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had said on the 23rd June that there would be a paper on social mobility at the end of this year. Asked if it would be Harriet Harman s department carrying it out, the PMS said he was not sure what the Whitehall processes would be at this point.

Asked what the Prime Minister s reaction was to the suggestion that the country was engaged in a class war, the PMS said the reaction to the rather choice Telegraph headline this morning was that the words that were briefed for Harriet Harman s speech looked remarkably similar to words the Prime Minister himself used in a speech in June.
