Oil Summit

Asked to confirm the story in the Financial Times that the Prime Minister was inviting Libya s leader, Colonel Gaddafi and the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez to an oil summit in London, the PMS replied that the invitations would be sent shortly and attendance could be discussed once responses had been received.

Asked who would be invited to the summit, the PMS said that we wanted to invite the major oil producers but we were not in a position at this point to discuss any individual countries.

Asked what the aim of the meeting would be, the PMS said that the aim of the meeting was to take forward, and build on, the very constructive discussions, which had taken place in Jeddah. We wanted to enhance the dialogue between producer and consumer countries.
