Condi Rice’s visit
« Middle East | Back to most recent briefing | Afghanistan »
Asked if we could confirm the visit of Condi Rice, the PMOS said journalists should talk to the Foreign Office on any meeting with Foreign Secretaries on Iran, as the situation was still fluid.
Asked what was the assessment of Condi Rice’s visit to the Middle East, as analysts believed it was a photo opportunity, the PMOS said it was not for us to give a commentary on other governments visits to the region. What we did welcome was the continued evidence of US commitment to moving the process forward. In that light we supported what Condi Rice had said. As the Prime Minister set out whenever he was in the Middle East, and as he set out in his Los Angeles speech, as well as at the White House, we believed we needed to try and move this forward, and do so as a matter of urgency. This would happen in a variety of different ways.
