Then the PM is as blind as he is
Comment by Uncarved Block — 16 Aug 2004 on 7:33 pm | LinkIt may be funny, but it’s not reasoned to make jokes out of David Blunkett’s blindness. I’ve seen a few people do this who wouldn’t normally fall for unjustified prejudice.
Anyway, isn’t there enough else to take the piss out of him about, without having to resort to his disability?
Comment by Francis Irving — 17 Aug 2004 on 12:05 am | LinkI’m assuming that we are talking about their mutual stupidity – see my previous comments on daft ideas that assume technology will solve all ills – rather than anything else 😉
Who first coined the phrase ‘Blind Himmler’, was it one of the contributors to this blog or did it come from elsewhere?
Comment by Roger Huffadine — 17 Aug 2004 on 9:42 am | LinkThat’d be me… I wasn’t really having a go at the fact that he is blind, more to differentiate him from the real Himmler. Other than that, I don’t think there’s too much difference…
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 17 Aug 2004 on 9:53 am | LinkCongratulations
I commented because I believe it is one of those phrases that will live in history.
Comment by Roger Huffadine — 17 Aug 2004 on 9:58 am | LinkFrancis,
my comment was meant metaphorically and was not intended to make a joke out of a disability. Unreserved apologies for any offense.
Comment by Uncarved Block — 17 Aug 2004 on 3:03 pm | Linkhow does he do it?
Comment by tony blair — 29 Nov 2004 on 4:09 pm | Linkdavid blunkett has only band sex in public places because he is not in a position to benefit as much as the rest of us.
Comment by luke — 15 Dec 2004 on 10:06 pm | Linki love tony blair a bit too much, pls help, i have fantasy dreams about him. i need help
Comment by luke — 17 Dec 2004 on 12:53 pm | Linki wanna sleep wid tony blair he so sexy i

p.s. i am against the iraq war
I find most of the comments re David Blunkett offensive, childish in the extreme and most unkind. He has overcome great obstacles ( read about his early life), and I believe most of the damage has been caused by newspapers that decide someone will be persecuted until they retire or are pushed out of govt. or public life. highly dangerous times. If it come to it, how many politicians have not used their influence at some time or other?
Comment by Brian — 18 Dec 2004 on 2:22 pm | LinkThe man was shagging someone else’s wife…
Her nanny got a miraculously fast service from his government department – no special favours just a year ahead of most other applicants..
He uses public money provided for a claimant’s spouse to pay for another man’s millionaire wife..
He thinks handing it back once he’s caught makes everything all right..
It really is a great shame that such an honest and moral person has had to be forced to resign.
One told us: "David continues to be deeply hurt and every blow is a body blow. His family are so sad he got mixed up with someone so immoral and evil. It has got to the stage where Kimberly has no idea who the father is." From the News of the World today.
Comment by Mr Pooter — 19 Dec 2004 on 10:32 am | LinkBlunkett is not just "fair game"! It is good (and important to democracy) that anyone so opposed to liberty and freedom should be TOTALLY destroyed. To hammer home the point after his "apparent" demise is important too. His totalitarian dogma must be snuffed out forever.
But let us remember: Blunkett did nothing without the complete approval of Blair. Blair represents totalitarian repression way beyond what George Orwell even dreamed. Blair (along with the insidious Bush – and the spineless ozzie Howard) are the greatest threats to world peace, individual freedom and the survival of humanity since Hitler. FAR FAR FAR worse that ANY alleged terrorist threat.
Comment by JK5 — 20 Dec 2004 on 7:51 am | LinkWatching the many post resignation interviews with Blunket was a mesmerising and ghastly experience. Blunkett’s snivelling self-pity made one’s flesh crawl. His repeated use of ‘the little one’ as emotional leverage was utterly disgusting.
This is a man who (admittedly) has overcome – let us not say used – some physical disability to blag his way to the top. For a professional politician, personal sympathy is a valuable weapon, but blindness is absolutely no excuse for such atrocious self-seeking behaviour. And it is his own reckless arrogance and vengefulness that has led to his downfall.
Blunkett and Quinn richly deserve each other, but there are several others, notably the ‘public servants’, who should also be held to account. The pity is that, as always, they will quietly fade out of view to continue their devious dealings. Note how quickly history is rewritten, and how many ministers emulate McCavity. Even our illustrious leader is today somehow in Baghdad on an urgent mission, having been so sure of his erstwhile friend’s innocence. We can be certain that if things had gone another way Blair would this afternoon have been in Downing Street proclaiming the victory and condemning whoever he could. These people have no scruples, no morals and no dignity.
Newspapers are part of the machinery, but they are not the motive force nor are they the originators of ministerial misconduct. Live by the sword, die by the sword!
Comment by Chuck Unsworth — 21 Dec 2004 on 4:15 pm | Link…and a big fat amen to all the above!
The most amazing thing to my mind is how much of the public has been taken in and want him back again should Labour win the next election. Blindness is obviously contagious in some ways…
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 21 Dec 2004 on 4:49 pm | LinkIf Our Dave had played his cards right he would never have lost his girl–only his turn.
Comment by Andrew Milner — 3 Jan 2005 on 12:07 pm | LinkNever forget; this was the monster that subtracted "saved living costs" from the compensation paid to people released after decades of wrongful imprisonment.
Continue to humuliate this really nasty piece of work to ensure he can never return to politics, and make his boss squirm at the same time.
Looking forward to Kimberly’s diary.
"Did spend an exhausting afternoon with David, still at least with him you can skip the make-up. Half an hour late for my evening date. Oh God, ass to mouth. And on arriving home, husband dear wanted some special attention. Truly it is said, ‘A woman’s work is never done’. Must get somehoice comments on David’s colleagues committed to paper. What can he mean by ‘mutiple child abuser’?"

"Nasty peice of work" – YES! YES!
"Continue to humuliate" – YES – BEYOND when it HURTS. TOTALLY DESTROY this enemy of freedom!
"boss squirm" – EVERYONE should learn to squirm at the very mention of his name.
The very word "blunkett" should be incorporated into the English Language (Like "Bobbitt" – cf. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Bobbitt) to mean "quintessential hypocrite" in the sense of:
"to blunkett" – v., to demand personal privacy after being caught red-handed in a crime while demanding abolition of all privacy for others. To be the quintessential hypocrite.
"a blunkett" – n., (doing …) the act of snivelling, squirming "owning up" AFTER being caught and at the same time trying to blame everyone else.
"blunkettly" – adv., (… arrogant) proclaiming high values and innocence while being blatently deceiptful, dishonest and hypocritical.
