Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with Condoleeza Rice’s view that it would be ‘conscionable’ not to publicise details of the terrorist threat or whether he supported David Blunkett’s approach to the issue, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) said that the US and UK authorities dealt with the matter in their own ways. David Blunkett had set out the position very clearly yesterday in saying, “Our job is to provide whatever measures are necessary to protect the British people. The Government will never hesitate to act or issue a warning if it is the best way to protect any community or venue facing a specific and credible threat. Advice would be issued immediately if the public needed to take specific action which could make them safer. There is also a difference between alerting the public to a specific threat and alarming people unnecessarily by passing on information indiscriminately. I think we have got the balance right”. Asked for a reaction to reports that the Chancellor’s photograph had been found on Al-Qaida computers seized in Pakistan, the PMS said that she had no further information on this issue. They exist, then YOU have to prove they DON`t exist. If you can`t prove they don`t exist then they still exist. You have to prove the second,I don`t have to prove the third until you have proven the second. And you say my logic is dodgy! you don`t have any logic.

I never said anything about being able to prove they don’t exist; in fact, I expressly said I nor anyone else in the world at this minute in time can prove they don’t exist. However, you said you CAN prove they exist. Go ahead, then. Prove it. You have still proved nothing. You are the only person I have yet communicated with who claims to be able to do that. So go ahead, prove it. You said you can – put your money where your mouth is. Stop turning it round; provide the proof you say you have. I don’t care whether you agree with my logic or not; I have NEVER said, and nor has anyone else, that they can PROVE the things no longer exist. You, however, along with Brush and Bliar, are the only ones in the world who claim to have proof they still exist. So again, provide this proof. Saying it isn’t enough – you said you can PROVE it – so do it.
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 18 Aug 2004 on 5:58 pm | LinkIncidentally, I have a family of dodos living at the bottom of my garden. And everyone though they were extinct!
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 18 Aug 2004 on 6:00 pm | LinkFolks, let’s not turn Downing Street Says into a blog war. George is convinced they exist; you, me, the weapons inspectors, and a large section of the planet seem to disagree.
One thing is clear: Nobody’s changing anyone’s mind in this discussion. End it.
Comment by Gregory Block — 18 Aug 2004 on 6:00 pm | LinkYour on for making a million there Papa. And Gregory you know that`s not true I am not the only one am I so why say something that is untrue.
Comment by george dutton — 18 Aug 2004 on 6:22 pm | LinkSorry I was in a rush before. Now Papa I am glad you now say they exist, you had me worried. After all they can`t exist and exist at the same time can they.So I thought you were saying they did not exist.
Comment by george dutton — 18 Aug 2004 on 7:57 pm | LinkWell, once again George you have just proved that you don’t actually read or understand what people are actually saying. I have NEVER said they do not exist; all I have ever said is that equally no-one can prove they do – especially you. You still have offered no proof apart from your own assertions – which do not constitute proof. Nor does the word of Tony Bliar, and if you believe his word on this subject then more fool you.
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 18 Aug 2004 on 8:43 pm | LinkPapa let`s agree we don`t agree on W.M.D. Know do you think saddam will make it to trial!.I have been thinking for a while know that once before the American`s had a high profile prisoner his name was Herman Goring we know what happened to him. As it could be embarrassing for some at his trial I wonder if he will be handed over to the interim Iraq government or will the U.S. keep him till and during his trial that is if he get`s to trial!!!.
Comment by george dutton — 18 Aug 2004 on 9:08 pm | LinkPersonally I am very surprised that he has made it as far as he has; we know that he could royally embarrass our governments if he ever gets a chance to say certain things in public. Having said that, with the attitude of modern governments, even if he has evidence of collusion by the US and UK during the 70s and 80s, they’ll just deny it and refuse to discuss it. Then opposition parties will demand enquiries, the government of the day will appoint the judge and jury, and no-one will ever be to blame (apart from some underlings who had the gall to question the great and good in the first place). But it wouldn’t surprise me if he met an accident before his trial.
Comment by PapaLazzzaru — 18 Aug 2004 on 9:12 pm | LinkI will be a little surprised if he get`s to trial!. It will be a VERY interesting year or so ahead and it won`t just be him although I think we will all find out just how little his so called cabinet and other`s knew.
Comment by george dutton — 18 Aug 2004 on 9:23 pm | LinkI don`t know if you saw Whicker`s war the other night. Alan Whicker said that as they advanced and took German position`s in Sardini they found that the German`s had much better gun`s then they did. When they had a good look at them they saw that they were made by Vicker`s,bought and paid for by the German`s back in the 1930`s.Nothing has changed has it!.
Comment by george dutton — 18 Aug 2004 on 9:33 pm | LinkOf course his trial may be in closed session. It could be said that people`s life`s would be at risk if certain thing`s got out like who worked for who etc! and we must protect our own they will say. They will think of many thing`s to say. Then of course will we find out if the french and german`s supplied him with W.M.D.etc.
