Asked if the Prime Minister would be attending the funeral of President Reagan in the US on Friday, the PMOS said that these were matters of protocol for the US to deal with in the first instance, and he was therefore unable to give a definitive answer to the question at this stage.

Exactly why is there a funeral for Reagan? was Reagan even a person? I thought he was a synthetic puppet for conservative business interest, and that isn’t dead, far from it (sadly).
Comment by lodjer — 8 Jun 2004 on 9:09 am | LinkAmerica hasn’t had a good dead president in a long time, now; and as 9/11 shows, there’s nothing more motivating to the public than a large, melodramatic, and ultimately meaningless funeral.
It’s the closest America has to a royal family. It’s unsurprising that they’d react this way.
