Car Companies

Put that Chancellor Merkel had outlined some help fro Opel and would there be any help from the British Government for Vauxhall, the PMS advised people to check with BERR but from memory, his recollection was that there would be a meeting that Lord Mandelson would be having on Thursday with the car industry. We wanted to ensure that our viable companies got through this downturn.

Asked if the Prime Minister was ruling out help for car manufacturers, the PMS said that we wanted to work with our car manufacturers and other sectors of business to see what appropriate support the Government could provide during the downturn.

Put that people should not expect any offers from the Government, the PMS said that he was not going to pre-empt announcements from Lord Mandelson.
