» Wednesday, February 8, 2006Education Seminar
Asked what was the purpose of the Education seminar tomorrow, the PMOS said that the seminar would build on a smaller seminar that was held at the DFES two weeks ago for organisations that had an interest in becoming, backing, or participating in Trusts. People were interested in how the Trusts came about, and the purpose of the seminar was to "flesh out" what the arrangement might be. Asked if there was a desire for a list of approved people who could be on a Trust, and also, was there absolutely no possibility in the future that the Prime Minister would move any further, the PMOS said the answer to both the questions was the same as he gave this morning. Ruth Kelly had set out the clarifications in her letter to Barry Sheerman, and the next step was the Bill. People should therefore wait for the next step. Asked about the publication of the Bill, the PMOS said he did not give a running commentary on the printing processes of Bills. Asked if we were leaving it open for the possibility of further change, the PMOS said he was simply stating the next procedural step. Put that the White Paper had to be "pulped", as there were spelling mistakes, the PMOS said the journalist was a "cruel man"! The journalist said he was simply recalling what had happened several weeks ago, and that there had been a very good article about it all in The Sun. The PMOS said he was sure that the Sun journalist was glad of the credit! Asked if there was any possibility that there could be errors in the Bill, the PMOS replied that our literacy drive was reaching into all corners of Whitehall!
