Asked if the PMOS was still saying nothing about Northern Ireland, he replied yes. He continued that he had given up on the optimism-pessimism vein a while ago, and that what would be, would be.

Asked if Gerry Adams would be back in Downing Street tomorrow morning for more talks, the PMOS said he thought he was, but in any case, they were in constant contact with all the parties. There were intensive discussions going on with the parties. We were satisfied that people recognised how important the discussions were, and also that time was short. We were not putting a precise deadline to things, as the parties needed to make decisions in their own time, because it was better not to make predictions about outcomes too early on.
