Asked if the decision to announce the date of the Budget today had been taken previous to the week’s first press briefing where a journalist raised a question about the timing of the announcement, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) said that it was for the Chancellor to decide the timing of the Budget announcement and that’s what he had done. Asked if Downing Street spoke to the Treasury after Monday’s press briefing to discuss the timing of the Budget announcement, the PMS said that the important thing was that we had a date and the Treasury had notified Parliament in good time.
