Jon Venables

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the former Home Secretary David Blunkett who said that people should be told whether there had been a minor technical breach of conditions or if a fresh criminal case had been committed in the case of Jon Venables, the PMS said that there was nothing to add to what the Prime Minister had already said this morning. The Prime Minister understood the public outrage but as we knew, there were particular constraints in this case.

Asked if the Prime Minister felt that people should eventually know that truth about this case, the PMS said that this was a truly abhorrent case but there was a balance, as always, between the justice system, the rights of the individual and the context.
