Peter Robinson

Asked for the Prime Minister’s view on Peter and Iris Robinson, the PMS referred journalists to what the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Shaun Woodward said about the situation at the weekend and said that the Government’s focus was on completing devolution, with the transfer of policing and justice powers from London to Belfast. The Prime Minister remained fully engaged on the issue and Shaun Woodward was in constant contact with the Prime Minister on this issue. The Prime Minister had spoken in recent days to both the Taoiseach and the Northern Ireland party leaders.

Asked if the Prime Minister planned to meet with Peter Robinson this week, the PMS said no, but he remained in close touch with all Northern Ireland party leaders.

Put that the Prime Minister must have spoken to Peter Robinson if he had spoken to all party leaders, the PMS said that we did not go into detail about private conversations the Prime Minister may or may not have had.
