NHS/IT Contract

Put that the Chancellor and Andy Burnham seemed to be saying different things in terms of the NHS/IT contract, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) said that Andy Burnham was currently in the House of Commons and referred journalists to his comments there. The Chancellor made comments yesterday in regard to the way in which certain aspects of the project could be de-scoped.

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the Chancellor when he said that there would be a delay in parts of the scheme or with Andy Burnham who said there would be savings, the PMS said that the Chancellor had been saying that there were ways of looking at programmes that made sure they were completely focused on frontline services and Andy Burnham was commenting in the House on this now.

Put that some people could think that the Treasury was looking for savings and that the Department of Health were trying to prevent that from happening, the PMS said that these were big projects and we had to review them to make sure they were delivering value for money. This is something that the Chancellor and the Secretary of State for Health would have looked at together.
