After Care for Armed Forces
« Afghanistan | Back to most recent briefing | Iraq Inquiry »
Asked if the Prime Minister was concerned about the after care given to the armed forces, the PMS referred journalists to what she had previously said about the Prime Minister s regard for our armed forces at all levels. Specifically on veterans, we had a resettlement package for people who left the armed forces to help them make the transition into civilian life, and to make that transition as smooth as possible. The National Audit Office report in 2008 said that the resettlement package for service leavers had been labelled at the forefront of international best practice . We took this issue seriously and it was at the forefront of the Prime Minister s mind. It was important to remember that ninety-four per cent of those who left the armed forces took up employment within six months of doing so.
Asked which budget funded the programme, the PMS said it was best to speak to the Ministry of Defence for details.
