Baroness Scotland

Asked if the Prime Minister was relaxed about Baroness Scotland s former employee telling her side of events, the PMS said that the UK Border Agency (UKBA) had conducted a thorough investigation into this matter, they had taken action and there was no more to say on the subject.

Asked if that meant that there was nothing the former employee could say that would concern the Government, the PMS said that the matter had been investigated by the UKBA.

Asked if the Prime Minister had faith in Baroness Scotland, the PMS said yes.

Asked if Baroness Scotland told the Prime Minister that she had seen her employee s passport, the PMS repeated that the matter had been investigated by the UKBA and referred journalists to the report they issued at the time, which went into detail about the investigation.

Asked if it was the Prime Minister s understanding that Baroness Scotland had seen the relevant documents, the PMS said that she had nothing to add to what the UKBA report had said.

Put that the Prime Minister said that Baroness Scotland s offence was not to take photocopies and that there was an implication in his words, the PMS said that the UKBA had thoroughly investigated this matter and they concluded that there was no intentional wrong-doing and that the issue was that copies were not kept of the relevant documents. The UKBA had satisfied themselves with all other aspects of the matter.

Asked what the Prime Minister s understanding was in regards to Baroness Scotland having seen the employee s passport, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was satisfied with the report from the UKBA into all of these issues.

Asked if the Prime Minister was relying on Baroness Scotland s word that she saw the documents, the PMS said that these issues were investigated thoroughly by the UKBA at the time and their conclusions were clearly set out. The Prime Minister said when asked about this at the time that he was waiting for the report from the UKBA. That report had been published and the Prime Minister was satisfied with their findings, and he had accepted Baroness Scotland s apology.
