Asked for a response to the comments made by Nick Clegg and Paddy Ashdown on Afghanistan, the PMS said that the Prime Minister met with senior ministerial colleagues on a regular basis to discuss the campaign in Afghanistan. This included meetings of National Security, International Relations and Development (NSID). The PMS said that the Prime Minister thought that this was an effective way of managing a difficult and challenging campaign. There were no plans to pursue a Cabinet role for the Minister in charge of issues surrounding Afghanistan and Pakistan.
