Baroness Scotland
« Diversity | Back to most recent briefing | European Council »
Asked if the Prime Minister thought that the UK Border Agency should look into the fact that Baroness Scotland employed an illegal immigrant, the PMS said that Baroness Scotland had put out a statement in which she set out the circumstances of this situation; she hired the person in question in good faith; she saw documents that led her to believe that this person was entitled to work in this country and was registered for tax and National Insurance.
Asked if the Prime Minister was satisfied with Baroness Scotland s statement, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had full confidence in Baroness Scotland and thought she was doing a very good job as Attorney General.
Asked if the Prime Minister was concerned that Baroness Scotland had been hoodwinked so easily, the PMS said that there was nothing further to add to what Baroness Scotland had already said.
Asked if the Prime Minister would urge colleagues to check the immigration status of employees, the PMS said that the Prime Minister would generally urge people to do the right thing in this sort of situation.
