Asked what the Prime Minister would be saying at this evening s pre-G20 informal meeting of the European Council, the PMS said that this meeting would concentrate on G20 issues. The Prime Minister would lead discussion on the importance of Europe; the need to maintain the road out of recession and the need to make sure the recovery was not put at risk.
Put that the Press Association had published some leaked documents on future action to be taken against banks, the PMS said that he had not seen what the journalist was referring to so would not like to comment.
Asked if the Prime Minister supported the Franco-German proposal to limit bonuses as a proportion of the company s profits, the PMS said that the basic position on bonuses was set out in the letter that the Prime Minister, Chancellor Merkel and President Sarkozy co-signed and would be discussed further at the G20 Summit next week.
