Asked if the Prime Minister had any reaction to comments that Lord Mandelson was the real Prime Minister, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was pleased to have a team of experienced Cabinet Ministers around him; it was a cohesive and coordinated team and the Prime Minister valued input from all members. The Prime Minister led the Cabinet and was focused on the important issues already mentioned in today’s briefing.

Asked if the Prime Minister was grateful to Harriet Harman for consulting people on their opinions regarding his leadership, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was completely focused on his priorities, particularly in the run-up to the G20, and his Cabinet was completely supportive of what the Government was seeking to do, both individually and collectively.

Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with Lord Mandelson that the Government should be seen as insurgents, the PMS said that the Prime Minister would not wish to comment on any particular extracts of any Cabinet Minister’s speech. Lord Mandelson had been talking about the energy levels important in politics.

Asked if the Prime Minister would be talking to President Obama in the near future, the PMS said that the Prime Minister and President Obama had spoken last week and they would see each other next week at the G20 Summit.
