Asked what the Prime Minister said at the Liaison Committee this morning about an increase in student places, the PMS said that the Prime Minister did not give a figure this morning and that there would be an announcement in due course.
Asked what the thinking was behind the decision to increase student places, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had answered this point at the Liaison Committee; it represented an increase in a demand for student places. Numbers had already increased to five hundred and thirteen thousand last year.
Asked if it was true that the Government would announce ten thousand more places for students, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had not mentioned a figure; it was best to wait for the announcement.
